The Mount to Coast R1 is one of the first running shoes specifically designed for ultramarathon training and racing. But regardless of your running experience or intentions, the R1 has plenty to love and translates well to a variety of road running.
Focused on performance over long distances, the Mount to Coast R1 uses nitrogen-infused LightCELL foam to offer lightweight cushioning with more energy return than traditional EVA. Within this midsole you’ll find the innovative ZeroSag inserts. The development of these inserts were influenced by the automotive industry, and add exceptional cushioning and energy return to each stride. Even more impressive, these inserts perform incredibly well in extreme temperatures, giving you more of what you put in, even on the longest runs.
The R1 midsole is made with cutting-edge technology, so it makes sense that even the shape of the midsole has been meticulously designed for performance. Mount to Coast molds this midsole with their GOFLOW geometry, helping it create smooth transitions to keep you moving forward. One of the more unique traits we’ve found in the R1 it the TUNEDFIT Dual Lacing System. This lacing technology allows you to adjust the forefoot and midfoot independently, created a truly customized fit.
Last, but not least, is the breathable, double-layered jacquard upper. Soft to the touch and extremely lightweight, this upper material is a perfect match for long distance runs. It’s also crafted with 40% recycled polyester, helping to reduce its carbon footprint.
